Beverage Maker Preleases 125,000 Square Feet for New Energy-Efficient Warehouse

Beverage giant PepsiCo has begun operations at a distribution facility built this year in the East County area of San Diego, after signing one of the region’s largest leases by square footage of the past year.
The western division of PepsiCo Beverages North America this month opened the 125,000-square-foot warehouse facility at 10057 Marathon Parkway in the unincorporated community of Lakeside, California, near the San Diego suburb of Santee.
PepsiCo executives said in a statement that the beverage maker moved its local operations from another location in the city of San Diego where it had operated for much of the past 60 years distributing products including Pepsi-Cola, Gatorade and Tropicana orange juice.
Johannes Evenblij, president of the beverage distributor’s western division, said the new facility allows for more efficiency and sustainability, after New York-based PepsiCo this year targeted a companywide 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The Lakeside facility houses 47 delivery trucks and services PepsiCo customers across Southern California. The warehouse has solar power systems and motion-sensing light systems that can adjust to natural lighting levels during the day.
CoStar data shows PepsiCo preleased the building in June 2020 from local developer Lakeside Land Co., an affiliate of Marathon Construction Corp., which completed the building this year. The lease was the 10th largest by square footage of the past year in the San Diego region and the largest in East County.
PepsiCo officials said the company is hiring for an undisclosed number of new jobs at the Lakeside facility, including sales, delivery, warehousing and administrative personnel.
